Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, April 10, 2011

Wowzers … another week gone by! I really wish I knew where the time was going. Especially since I saw a friend on Facebook who said that she and her husband had been married for 6 months the other day and I realized that next month it will be 4 years for Nathan and I. I was like, really? FOUR YEARS! Where on earth has that time gone?! I only wish I knew. Anyways, that’s totally beyond the point of this post. I had a really good week here at the blog. Here’s what happened:

I also posted two reviews:

And I am happy to say that we ARE getting a fence! And NOT chain link! We are going to go with the black aluminum that looks like wrought iron. It’s actually cheaper than the vinyl style (but still a lot more than the chain link, but it’s in the budget! … after a slight stretch of it, lol!) I am really excited to finally be getting a fence, we’ve been talking about it for the two years that we’ve had Buster, but it just never worked out for us until now. So we’re super happy. PLUS! I am happy to say that in 42 days I will be cruising my way to Alaska for our first BIG vacation together! We are super excited!! The countdown is definitely on for that! Hope everyone has a really good week 🙂

Sunday Wrap-Up, April 3, 2011

Another week has gone by. I really wish I knew where these weeks were going because they just keep flying by me. Anyways, overall it was a good week. I am very happy to share that Wichita State won the 2011 NIT Championship – they are in the MVC Conference (which is the conference that my SIU Salukis are in) and I love to see fellow conference teams do well in the post-season.

I posted two reviews:

It was a good week here on the blog as far as what I posted.

We finally got our taxes prepared last week (nothing like last minute, right?) We’re getting good refunds from both state and federal …. so Buster gets a fence this year 🙂 Buster was going to get a fence either way, but this just helps us pay for it. Unfortunately, our budget really doesn’t line up with the type of fence we’re wanting. We would like to be able to get the vinyl style of fencing, but we have more of a chain link budget. It’s just for the dog and if we sank all the money into the vinyl fence it wouldn’t be like we would recover the price when we sold the house, so chain link is probably what we will be getting – unless something changes between now and when we talk to somebody who knows about fencing. Other than that nothing else has been going on. I guess until next week….

Another week. Where do these weeks keep going? I really wish I knew! It’s like I blink and it’s almost April! Oh well. It was an eventful week for me. I had to go to the dentist (I hate dentists, sorry!) and it was my first time going to a new one here in Paducah – everyone was really nice, so I’m glad I found a good one! That was on Monday. On Tuesday, I had to wait for the guys to come and fix our leak and hardwood floors that buckled from the leak. That was fun. Oh and then I also had to wait for the air conditioning guy to come and fix our A/C, we had a defrost board go bad. That was a lot of fun. So all in all, it was a VERY expensive week. And although I only worked 3 of the 5 days this week, they were very long days at work. I work in a concrete company and rain is not good for pouring concrete. Oh and let’s not talk about the fact that it’s Spring and yet it is absolutely FREEZING out there! We even had snow flurries yesterday! But, I live in western Kentucky, so it could be 70 tomorrow, you never know what the weather will do around here. Although I don’t think 70s is happening yet, maybe by the middle of the week…. *wishful thinking, at least!*

I think I had a good week here on the blog:

  • I actually did NOT have a Mailbox Monday – I know, right? Couldn’t believe it either!!
  • I did talk about my bookish pet peeves on Top Ten Tuesday
  • I admitted my addiction to owning books
  • I finally spilled the beans about wanting to take a break from accepting review books.

I posted one review: Blood of My Brother by James LePore

So there you have it – that’s my weekend update. Oh one more thing!!! I FINALLY GOT AN iPHONE!!! YAY! I am so happy! My husband got his back in February when Verizon announced and I have been (not so) patiently waiting to get one! It is only a gazillion times better than my old Blackberry was. LOVE IT! Well, I think that’s it. Have a great week! And GOOOO BUTLER (that’s who I got in the office pool) – but I’m really rooting for Kentucky!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, March 20, 2011

Well here it is – another week past. I watched a lot of basketball this past week. My bracket is totally messed up – thanks to Morehead State. Oh well. It’s been a really interesting tournament so far, I love this time of year! March Madness is the best!!!! I root for the SIU Salukis, and although we are not in the post-season, we had one team in the Big Dance (Indiana State, who lost Friday night to Syracuse), two teams (Missouri State and Wichita State) in the NIT and 3 other teams in either the CBI or the CIT tournaments. Six teams in post-season play out of a 10 team league is pretty good in my opinion.

On the book front, well I’m watching more TV than I am reading. I’m even watching games online at work, so I haven’t really been reading a lot there either! But I am reading, I did finish and review one of James Patterson’s book. And right now I’m reading Deed So by Katharine Russell, a review book that I’m scheduled for a tour stop through Pump Up Your Book in early April. So I am reading!

Here at the blog, I had a few posts this past week:

  • I shared my mailbox – I keep wondering when I’m going to get my head on straight and stop trading so many book on PBS … probably never 🙂
  • I let you glimpse my wishlist – posted two books that are coming out during my birthday month that are part of two series that I really enjoy (Happy birthday to me!)

I posted one review:

So here we are, another week down. Another week to go. This coming week will be busy for me, I have a dentist appointment (go ahead and kill me now – sorry if any of my readers are dentists/hygenists) and I also have the guys coming on Tuesday to fix the leak that caused our hardwood floors to buckle and rip up half the floor in the dining room and replace the ruined wood. Sometimes I think that the hardwood floors that we put in when we bought the house was the best and worst investment we ever made – this is the second time that we’ve had buckling problems due to water leaking in our house, at least it was in a different place. Oh the joys of homeownership. But the really good thing I’m looking forward to – I will hopefully be getting the iPhone this week :):) My family’s company is on a business plan and that’s what my phone is on and finally there is a line that is up for renewal (not mine, but they let us use each other’s renewals) so I’m getting the iPhone! YAY!!!!!! My husband got his back in February when they came out on Verizon and I’ve been really jealous ever since, haha!

So that’s really my entire update for the week. I guess until next week ….. GO MARCH MADNESS!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, March 13, 2011

First, let me express the fact that my thoughts are with everyone who was affected by the horrible earthquake in Japan and the ensuing tsunami.

Other than that, it has been another good week. On Thursday, my husband and I went and saw Unknown at the theater. It was a really good movie. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thrilling movie! We really loved it! Work was the same old, same old – but it was very busy because I had to prepare everything for the accountant to close out February. Oh and payables was this week, too, always a busy time of the month for me.

I was a little bit quiet here on the blog, but I am working behind the scenes with the schedule function for the upcoming weeks. I have scheduled a review of Blood of My Brother by James LePore for March 24th as part of the Pump Up Your Book virtual tour. I hope everyone stops by for the review; I found it a very enjoyable book.

Here is what was posted:

  • I shared my mailbox – could anyone be any more addicted to the PBS Box-of-Books feature? (Doubtful, wait until you see tomorrow’s edition!)
  • I participated in WWW Wednesday.

Like I said, it was a quiet week here but I do appreciate everyone who stops by. The upcoming weeks are my absolute favorite: MARCH MADNESS IS HERE!!! I am a huge basketball fan, and although my favorite team (SIU Salukis) are not going dancing this year I am definitely looking forward to watching my other favorite team (Kentucky). I hope everyone has another great week ahead!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, March 6, 2011

I know this is late today, but I just got home a couple of hours ago. I spent the past 3 nights in St. Louis for the MVC Basketball Tournament (and I’m watching the Championship game on CBS right now) I’m a huge SIU Saluki fan! The kids definitely played their hearts out during their two games in the tournament. They almost beat Missouri State on Friday, but just couldn’t pull it out, ending up losing by 2 at the very end. It was sad. And I really wish that those kids had played like they played on Friday all season – it would have been a very different year had they done that. Oh well. There’s always next year 🙂

Anyways, because I was out of town since Saturday, the blog has been rather quiet here. But I did do some things this past week, here’s what happened on the blog:

I posted one review: The Tenth Justice by Brad Meltzer

Also:

While I was out of town, I was able to finish Blood of My Brother by James LePore. That is a review book that won’t be reviewed here on the blog until March 24th, when I’m scheduled for a tour stop through Pump Up Your Book. So stay tuned for that. I also started reading The Sherlockian on my Nook Color (I really need to start making use of that expensive gift!) I’m about 80 pages into it, and it’s really interesting so far!! Definitely looking forward to seeing what happens! Well, I suppose that’s all I really have to update about right now. Have a great week!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, Feb. 27, 2011

So it’s been a pretty good week around here. I finished up the third book in the new-to-me series that I started this month (Goldy Schulz). I did a few things here at the blog this week, too:

I posted one review: The Cereal Murders by Diane Mott Davisdon

I showed everyone my mailbox from last week.

I participated in WWW Wednesdays.

Overall it was a good week. Right now I’m reading The Tenth Justice by Brad Meltzer. I’m about 200 pages into it and it’s been really good so far. It’s an interesting storyline. I had a wonderful girl-time lunch this week with my brother-in-law’s new girlfriend (who, I now think is an ex-girlfriend….too bad, I was hoping she would be good for him in the long run, plus I really liked her). It made me realize that I don’t have enough girlfriends, but it’s so hard for me to meet people in real life. I don’t work in the town where I live, my neighbors are all old enough to be my parents, I just don’t make friends easily. But I definitely miss girltime. My best girlfriend lives about 5 hours away and we have regular phone-dates, but it’s just not the same. Such is life. Leaves me more time to read :):)

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, Feb. 20, 2011

Wow – another week gone by! Where do they keep flying to? You know, it’s kind of funny – when you’re 15 the days move by SO SLOWLY and when you’re 25 the days fly by before your eyes! Crazy! I had a good week, decent reading wise, good at work, but I would die to have about 4 days of doing absolutely nothing in a row! Too bad that’s not going to happen. Wishful thinking 🙂

So here’s what happened here on the blog this week:

I posted one review: Dying for Chocolate by Diane Mott Davidson

And I talked about what I received in my mailbox.

I talked about what I was reading this week on Wednesday.

All in all it’s been a good week, I’m about a quarter of the way through the 3rd book in the Goldy Schulz series, The Cereal Murders. I’m enjoying it so far. I only have the first 5 books in this series on my shelves, so I will probably read the first 5 and then take a break until I can round up some more in this series. Of course, I also have some review books coming up that I need to begin working on (although I have only received one of them so far – which reminds me I probably need to get back into contact with the person who had contacted me about review, especially since I’m supposed to have a review up sometime in March…..) Anyways, I hope everyone is having a really good weekend – here’s to another work-week that will probably fly by my eyes before I know it!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, Feb. 13, 2011

I suppose I was a little bit MIA on this blog that I have been in the past few weeks. I didn’t schedule as many things as I had been trying to do and life proceeded to get in the way, so there was three days with nothing posted. Sorry about that.

I had my first DNF for 2011. I was kind of disappointed, okay, actually I was really disappointed. But I moved on.

I posted one review: Catering to Nobody by Diane Mott Davidson.

The only meme I participated in was Mailbox Monday.

And I had to give my own, if brief, opinion, on a certain author and her outburst. (The delete button is sometimes your best friend).

Right now I’ve just started Dying for Chocolate by Diane Mott Davidson, the second in the Goldy Schulz series. I’m such a serial series reader! But I love them!

Here’s to another great week of reading and blogging!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, Feb. 5, 2011

This week my reading has been hit or miss. I was able to finish Divine Justice by David Baldacci. I really enjoyed it – it will be interesting to read the most recent installment of this series (Hell’s Corner) in the coming months. Now I’ve started reading A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick. I’m only about 50 pages into it, and it’s been good so far, but it’s much slower reading than what I’m really used to.

I met my brother-in-law’s new girlfriend this week, she’s really nice and I think she’ll be really good for him …. but I don’t really like that we have the same first name – talk about awkward depending on how far this relationship goes…

Anyways, here’s what happened here on the blog this week:

Posted one review: Divine Justice by David Baldacci

I was spotlighted on Jackie’s blog on Tuesday.

I also talked about:

So that’s all I’ve got for right now. I hope that this coming week is a good one, but it’s going to be busy for me at work (I’ve got payables on the same day as my payroll, yuck!). But there’s some snow in the forecast – even though we’ve been lucky and have missed most of the really heavy stuff – so I kind of hope for a snow day this week, hehe!
