Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, August 14, 2011

Well here it is … time to write another edition of my weekly wrap-up. I know I sound like a broken record, but really, where are the days going? I have been reading up a storm the last two weeks! I don’t know what’s gotten into me … it’s like I woke up one day and decided to start reading again! It feels great! I knew I had been in a slump for a long time, and I don’t want to jinx it and say that I’m out of it … but I really hope that I am! This week I was finally able to get my LibraryThing account up to date with all of my TBR books. I am ashamed to have a final count. I’m not sure why I think I need all these books, but suffice it to say, there are 400+ physical books in this house that I have yet to read. Yikes. And I keep getting more in the mailbox all the time it seems. **Hello, my name is Tara, and I am a book-a-holic** I guess there are worse things to be addicted to 🙂 Anyway, I was also pretty active here on the blog. So in case you missed it:

  • I shared my mailbox … and I have yet to pre-schedule tomorrow’s edition because I am so ashamed…. but to be completely honest, the books that I received this past week were part of a big book box trade that I have had going with a friend on MysteryBookSwap for a couple of months. (As if that makes it sound that much better, lol).
  • I participated in WWW Wednesdays, something I hadn’t done in ages!
  • I posted about how I am starting to get negative feelings toward putting an actual number rating on my books. Come on, readers! I still need you to talk to me about how YOU handle rating books!!

And I posted THREE! reviews:

Right now I’m reading two books … Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. After I finish with oen of those books (probably HP), I will be jumping into a couple of e-books that I have to review as well as two other  library books I have checked out.

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, Aug. 7, 2011

Here we are at another week gone by and another week just starting. August. I would really love to know where January, February, March, April, May, June and July have gone to. I’ve blinked and missed them somehow. Oh well. This week we had a birthday dinner for Nathan’s mom and then today we have to go to his grandmother’s house for a going away party for his cousin. Two family get-togethers in one week. Shoot me. Seriously. I love my family and his family, but I can only take so much sometimes. I think I will reserve any more comment on this topic, lol.

So … what might you  have missed here at the blog? Quite a bit actually.

And one review:

So that’s it. I told you there was quite a bit of stuff that went on here this past week. Right now I’m in the middle of reading two books.. TWO! I haven’t done that in ages! I’m reading Hotwire by Alex Kava and William and Kate: A Royal Love Story by Christopher Andersen. They’re both really good and shouldn’t take long at all for me to finish and review here, so stay tuned!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, July 31, 2011

Another week gone by. Tomorrow is the first of August! Crazy! And the last half of the year is always the hardest for us financially. We have 9 birthdays between August and October, our car insurance, home insurance and real estate taxes all come due between October and December. Oh and then let’s not forget the 14 people we have to buy Christmas gifts for. Ahhh. It’s definitely not my favorite half of the year. But that really has nothing to do with the topic of my blog 🙂

I had a pretty good week, I did some great reading – I had hit a slump, I hope I’m out of it now. Here’s what happened here at the blog:

  • I shared my mailbox … I received 4 books and have already read 2 of them! Go me!
  • I proved to everyone that I have a drug habit … with my drug of choice being books 🙂

And I posted three reviews:

Like I said earlier, I hope I’m out of my slump, because I’m reading up a storm …. I guess it’s probably all in the books that I’m choosing right now, but it definitely feels good to want to read again now!

Hope everyone has a great week 🙂

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, July 24 2011

Another week down. It’s amazing how quickly time seems to fly by now. When I was a teenager it seemed as if time inched by. Now in my mid-twenties, with 30 being closer than 20, I can’t keep track of where the time goes. Sometimes I feel like I’m at an awkward age. Not really age, but I’m definitely at an awkward stage in life, it seems. I’m 26. I’ve been married 4 years. If I hear one more question about why we don’t have children, I’m going to scream. Out loud. At the top of my lungs. Seriously. It’s no one’s business but my own. Leave it alone. *Okay, I’ll get off my soap box now*

I got out of my reading slump a little bit. That was definitely a nice feeling. I finished two books this week and I’m almost halfway through the one I’m reading now.

Here’s what happened:

And I posted two reviews:

Hope everyone is staying cool wherever they are. It’s been unbelievably and unbearably hot here in the Midwest. I hope this heat breaks soon. I’m not necessarily ready for snow, but a cool fall will be great! I think the problem is that we had such a short spring here where we live. We had such a rainy spring that there was no time to enjoy the warmer, but not yet hot, weather before the stifling summer heat set in.

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, July 17, 2011

Well I didn’t do a Sunday wrap-up last week. I woke up Sunday morning feeling like I was coming down with something. I slept most of the day and didn’t do hardly anything except get up and eat dinner. That was it. Then Monday hit me like a cube of bricks had fallen on top of me. It was terrible. I’m not a good person when I’m sick. I whine. I complain. I just don’t handle it well. My poor dog didn’t understand why we were at home but I wasn’t playing with him or why he couldn’t stay out in the backyard and play around some (well, it was 100+ degrees, that’s why!). My husband went a little hungry on Monday night because I just didn’t have the energy. He claims the shake that he had when he brought me one was all he needed, but I still felt bad. Of course, he’s a grown man – he could have made his own supper. So you can imagine that I did not have a good start to the week. I missed Monday and Tuesday at work. Then on Thursday my dog ripped half of my big toe nail off my toe. It was my fault, really. I stepped on his leash at work to try to catch him from sneaking out into the front room and when I did so he took off and the leash went up over and caught my toenail just right to bend it back. It’s still very tender, but I think tomorrow I will be able to get it trimmed back as much as I can. It’s going to be super short, but not dangerously so. So let’s just say that all in all, I have NOT had a good week. Can you tell that I’m a whiner?

So needless to say, I didn’t get hardly anything done here at the blog. I had wanted to work on a couple of my pages when I was home, but Monday the computer only got used about 20 minutes before I gave up and went back to sleep. And Tuesday I did everything but work on the blog. Oh well. And I had every intention on posting a Top Ten Tuesday post because I really liked the topic (and I don’t really care for the topics chosen for the next three or four weeks) Oh well.

My reading has definitely suffered from the time I was sick. But that’s okay, I’ll get back into things 🙂

Anyway,  this week I shared my Mailbox.

Oh, and one review: Hell’s Corner by David Baldacci.

I hope that everyone has a great up-coming week and I hope I can finally kick this lingering cough. Have a great week!!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, June 26, 2011

Well … I haven’t been keeping up with these weekly wrap ups lately. In fact, I haven’t done a single one since before we left on our Alaskan vacation back in May. I guess I got out of the habit, but I’m going to try to get back into it. I’ve been in somewhat of a reading slump. I mean, honestly, I’ve been reading, but I have just been reading a little bit at a time here and there. I just haven’t felt much like reading. (Although I did devour a book in two days this past week. And I still can’t stop raving about it!) Yesterday I celebrated my birthday early with my family. I got some pretty good gifts and some money. That will definitely come in handy when we go to Vegas next week for my birthday! My husband bought me New Kids on the Block/ Backstreet Boys tickets a long time ago for out there. I couldn’t resist, they will be there on the 3rd and my birthday is on the 5th. I figured, hey, let’s just take one day off work and go! So we are! I’m like a giddy teenager just thinking about it. I am a little young for the NKOTB fan base (although I do know most of their songs), but BSB was my obsession for at least 3 years (approximately ages 12-14). I suppose I don’t need to say that my husband is NOT looking forward to this, but hey, I don’t care! It’s my birthday gift! HAHA!

Okay, so I suppose I should tell you all what went on here at the blog this past week:

And I posted two reviews:

So that’s about it for this past week. Hope everyone has a good week 🙂

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, May 8, 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there 🙂

Another week gone by. This week I kind of hit a reading slump. I ended up DNF’ing the book that I was reading and then picking up a “fluff” book to get me back on track (I consider cozies “fluff” because they’re easy reads for me – sorry if that offended cozy lovers, I don’t mean it in a bad way). It’s been a crazy couple of weeks here in Paducah with the river being WAY over the flood stage and flooding going on in Paducah. For those of you who watch national news, you might have heard about the levee that was blasted in order to save Cairo, IL – a tiny town that a lot of people in Missouri wanted to let flood. Well, let me set the record straight, seeing as how the media didn’t really portray the entire picture. When the Army Corps of Engineers decided to blow the levee (after a short-lived courtroom fight from Missouri) that not only saved Cairo, IL it also helped the river level here in Paducah and other places throughout western Kentucky. Before the levee was blasted the river was expected to crest at 58 feet (our flood stage is 39 feet), but after the levee was blasted the river crested earlier and much lower than originally predicted, at 55 feet. However, the only thing that has been reported in regards to this flood is that of Cairo, IL and the decision to blow the levee and flood a lot of farm ground (which, incidentally, was originally set aside for that purpose, in case this ever happened, hence the very short-lived courtroom fight that was continually shot down by the judges, including the United States Supreme Court refusing to even hear the case). But that’s not what’s getting reported. I know a lot more than what has been going on around here because my husband works for the City and is very well-informed as to what is going on, he’s put in a LOT of hours trying to get everything in order for this flood, from making sure all the floodgates get closed to calling people and businesses to inform them of the need to start sandbagging. We have friends who live in another state who called last night and knew hardly anything about what was going on in our area – that’s how little this second-worst flood in history is getting media attention. Pretty sad if you ask me.

*Steps off soap box*

So, it’s been another quiet week here at the blog, with only a few things posted, but here’s what you might have missed:

I posted one review:

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, May 1, 2011

Another week gone by. And what a week it has been. For all those out there who do not own a house … DO NOT buy one! It just seems like one thing after another. Found out we have the start of termites – luckily we found it early enough that there is little to no damage. But it’s still gonna cost us $1000 to get the treatment. Ugh. If there was ever a lemon of a house, I swear, we own it. When we bought our house in 2008 it was only four years old. Fast forward three years, and it’s now 7 years old – according to my mother we’ve hit that spot where things are going to start to go downhill. She said that if we take care of everything now, we should get a break for another 5 or so years. I hope that’s true. Of course, it’s highly doubtful that we will still be in this house in 5 years, but you never know what will happen. I know I’ve been quiet again this week. There were two nights that I didn’t even turn the computer on. I’ve been noticing myself doing more and more of that here lately. It also didn’t help that I have been completely wrapped up in everything to do with the royal wedding. I am writing this on Saturday and honestly, I am doing so while I am watching my DVR’d version of the wedding. From what I have already seen online, it looks like it was a beautiful event. I wish the royal couple a very happy life, and Catherine (can’t call her Kate, anymore) was simply stunning. Nathan just called me a nerd for recording the wedding.

Anyways, here’s what you missed this week at the blog:

One review:

And I also posted my monthly wrap-up.

My reading has slowed down. I’m currently reading Undercurrents by Ridley Pearson. I like it, but it’s not going as fast as my two previous books did. So I hope that everyone has a good week coming up 🙂

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, April 24, 2011

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Easter today. We are having Easter dinner here at our house today. We prefer to do at least one family meal a year at our house because we invite both of our families and then only have to have one meal, rather than the obligatory two meals for other events. 🙂 I know it’s been another quiet week here at the blog. I just haven’t really been in the mood for whatever reason. I know at the beginning of the year I was constantly scheduling various memes and whatnot. But for whatever reason, they just aren’t calling to me. Not to mention the fact that for the first time in AGES I didn’t even have a single book come into my house so I couldn’t participate in Mailbox Monday! I felt lost not having anything come into the house! Haha!

Briefly, here’s what happened here at the blog:

I only had two non-book review posts:

I had two reviews:

In non-bookish news, we got our fence put up! It’s gorgeous! I love it!! And Buster, well he’s trying to figure it out. He doesn’t understand why he’s not being taken out on the leash anymore. He keeps looking at us like, “aren’t you coming?” It’s kind of funny. The sad thing is that he’s dirty! I pay good money every month to get him bathed and groomed and he is going to get nasty out there in the backyard because it gets pretty muddy back there in certain places where we have little to no grass. Ugh. I told my mom it’s a shame that he’s a roll-in-dead-things type dog rather than a prissy little thing like her dog! Oh well. I hope everyone has a great upcoming week!

Sunday Wrap-Up

Sunday Wrap-Up, April 17, 2011

Well another week gone by. I know things were quiet here at the blog this past week. That’s partly because I stepped away from the computer a little bit this past week. Does that mean that I got a LOT of reading done during that time? Or maybe cleaning the house? Laundry? ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE? Nope. Nada. Zilch. Zero. NOTHING accomplished. There were actually two nights in a row that I didn’t even turn my computer on. And you know what, it was kind of nice!! Of course that also means that I’m having slightly guilty feelings due to this. Oh well, life goes on. I did post two things this week that I had scheduled:

One review: A World I Never Made by James LePore

And I shared my very slim mailbox – oh and guess what, I don’t even have anything to contribute to tomorrow’s Mailbox Monday. It’s kind of a nice relief 🙂

So that’s pretty much it. Maybe this coming week will be more productive for me. Have a great week!!
